We scanned 96,283 websites: the SEO mistakes that show up most
Between April and October 2026 the LANGR SEO scanner ran 248,167 complete audits on 123,951 domains. For this study we took the latest audit per domain, which gives one row per site. 27,668 of those sites could not be fetched at all (an error page, a timeout or no homepage), so the content numbers below are based on the 96,283 sites that answered.
A note on the sample: most domains were found through newly issued SSL certificates and trending domain lists in 15 country markets. That means many young sites and small businesses, and fewer big brands. Read the numbers as "what a typical new website looks like", not as a census of the whole web.
The basics are mostly in place
Almost every site has a page title: only 0.9 % were missing one. The median overall score was 78 out of 100, and half of all sites landed between 74 and 83.
| Score band | Sites |
|---|---|
| 90 to 100 | 4,828 |
| 80 to 89 | 36,426 |
| 70 to 79 | 47,462 |
| 60 to 69 | 7,082 |
| below 60 | 485 |
Where sites lose points
| Finding | Share of sites |
|---|---|
| No structured data (schema.org) | 53.3 % |
| No og:image for social sharing | 50.0 % |
| No sitemap.xml | 26.1 % |
| No meta description | 19.4 % |
| HTTP does not redirect to HTTPS | 17.7 % |
Structured data is the biggest gap. More than half of the sites give search engines no machine-readable description of who they are. Among the sites that do use it, the most common types are WebSite (15,866 sites) and Organization (15,404). LocalBusiness appears on only 1,327 sites, even though a large part of the sample is local businesses.
The missing og:image matters more than it looks. When a link is shared on LinkedIn, Facebook or in a chat app, the preview falls back to a random image or none at all.
The platform makes a difference
| Platform | Sites | No structured data | No sitemap | No meta description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress | 25,703 | 28.1 % | 11.4 % | 24.6 % |
| Shopify | 4,411 | 18.6 % | 1.9 % | 10.2 % |
| Webflow | 1,623 | 60.9 % | 27.6 % | 9.9 % |
| Magento | 1,257 | 43.3 % | 53.1 % | 10.3 % |
| PrestaShop | 1,205 | 31.4 % | 78.8 % | 6.5 % |
| No CMS detected | 60,583 | 67.0 % | 32.4 % | 18.5 % |
Hosted platforms like Shopify ship sensible defaults, so sitemaps and structured data come for free. Hand-built sites without a detectable CMS are the most likely to miss both. PrestaShop stands out: 78.8 % of the shops we scanned had no sitemap.xml we could find.
What to fix first
- Add structured data. An Organization or LocalBusiness block with name, logo, address and sameAs links takes ten minutes and helps search engines connect your site to your brand.
- Set an og:image on the homepage and key pages, 1200 Γ 630 pixels.
- Publish a sitemap.xml and reference it in robots.txt.
- Write a meta description for every page that should rank.
- Force HTTPS with a 301 redirect from http://.

Method: latest complete audit per domain, 123,951 domains, 96,283 reachable. Shares are calculated against the sites where the relevant check ran. Findings shared by fewer than 50 sites are left out, and no individual domain is named.
